Nintendo DS!
Oh, the irony.

As you probably should have heard, Opera (web browser) is coming to the Nintendo DS in June. I've been an avid supporter of Opera for 4-5 years now. One thing that bothers me, however, is when you visit www.nintendo.com in Opera, this is what you get:

Wouldn't it be ironic if you couldn't even get to nintendo.com with the Opera web browser on the DS?

Here's to hoping they start supporting it... :P

Aaugh, browser sniffing! When I tried, it got cranky because I have flash turned off. I can only hope the sniffer is better than this one.

And I never could understand that 'download IE' stuff. It either comes pre-loaded and integrated, or it's unavailable, isn't it? :P

I hate sniffers because of of stuff like that. What annoys me is a site that supports Netscape but non of the Mozilla browsers.

Whuh? That sounds pretty weird, given that Mozilla is the heir to N. Same engine and all that.

That's exactly my point!

Reading the Opera forums somewhere I read that the browser wont support flash or pdfs.

So unless they come up with a non-flash Nintendo.com it's looking like that'll be the case.

Switch to Firefox. Get the Flashblock extension. Blocks all flash, everywhere, and you can click the blocked flash to load it if you actually wanted to see it.

Try Opera? F12 → disable plugins. No FALSH.

Opera for DS

Im pretty sure Opera does support flash, just for some reason comes with flash 7 instead of 8.

quigoni stated that the DS version won't support Flash or pdfs. I wonder if the phone version supports flash? If it doesn't, then on well.

I don't think so. To my knowledge the only mobile browser with any flash support was on the Sony Clies.

oooo I thought he meant the PC version, duh.

Fortunately the Opera browsers support spoofing, so you could always have it say you're IE. I'm excited to see a browser come out for the DS, sort of. But I still don't plan to get it myself. I just don't see the resolution as being suitable for anything beyond the most basic browsing.

unfortunately, even when you tell it to identify as IE, nintendo.com still doesnt work :/

That's annoying. I seem to remember being able to spoof when Safari wasn't officially supported. If enough people complain perhaps Nintendo will either drop the checking, or at least add more browsers to the list.

Whoa, a site that acknoledges Safari's existence?!

Never had any problems with Nintendo.com here, and I've been using Opera for years...
